About us
Over the last 50 years, our hospital has grown to be a leader in medical advancement with a focus on providing the community comprehensive and compassionate medical care.
Who we are
Catholic Medical Center (CMC) is a full-service, acute care hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire, dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to the communities we serve. Rooted in a rich tradition of excellence, we combine advanced clinical expertise with a deep commitment to treating every patient with dignity and respect.
Local care, backed by national strength
As part of HCA Healthcare, Catholic Medical Center combines the personalized care you expect from a local hospital with the strength and resources of a nationally recognized healthcare system. This partnership allows us to invest in our people, technology and community — so we can deliver high-quality, compassionate care close to home.
Our commitment to excellence is reflected in national and local recognition. CMC has been named among the 2025–2026 Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, earned recognition for world-class cardiac surgery by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and received top honors in the Union Leader Readers’ Choice Awards for both hospital care and emergency services. We are also proud to partner with the American Heart Association to deliver nationally recognized stroke care.
Investing in our community and care
We are continuously strengthening our hospital and expanding access to care across the region:
- More than $500,000 invested annually in community sponsorships and partnerships
- Over 1,000 volunteer hours contributed by our colleagues
- Strengthening care teams by adding over a dozen new providers to our medical staff, including certified nurse midwives, a neurosurgeon, a third cardiac surgeon and a neonatologist.
- A $150 million investment in services and infrastructure to support long-term, sustainable care in Manchester for decades to come
- Expanding access with new care sites, including a freestanding emergency room in Nashua
Enhancing patient experience
We are continuously improving how and where care is delivered to better serve our patients.
Emergency room (ER) improvements include:
- Shorter wait times
- More convenient parking
- Enhanced team support to care for you
- A continued focus on improving the overall patient experience
We have also expanded advanced cardiac capabilities, reducing the need for patient transfers and allowing more people to receive specialized care close to home
Through every investment and improvement, our focus remains the same: providing exceptional care for our patients and strengthening the health of the communities we serve.
Our legacy of care and innovation
CMC is proud to be one of New Hampshire’s largest health systems, licensed for 330 beds with a staff of over 400 affiliated providers and more than 3,000 employees. Serving more than 180,000 patients each year, we offer a wide variety of healthcare services in a highly technical and mission-driven environment. Our history is rich with religious connection, and we continuously evolve to meet and exceed patient expectations.
We are home to the nationally renowned New England Heart and Vascular Institute, a leader in advanced cardiovascular care. We were the first in New Hampshire to perform groundbreaking procedures like mechanical heart implants for atrial fibrillation.
With a strong foundation in Catholic values, CMC’s Mom’s Place introduced the first neonatal unit in the country based on "couplet care." Our Women's Wellness and Fertility Center is a regional leader in obstetrics, gynecology, and surgical care, providing mission-driven services.
Our accredited Breast Care Center leads the state in cutting-edge care, including breast angiography and breast surgery. CMC serves over 180,000 patients annually through a wide range of services designed to meet the needs of everyone, from primary care for the young to specialized care for older adults.
Our mission and values
Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.
In pursuit of our mission:
- We carry out Christ’s healing ministry by offering health, healing and hope to every individual who seeks our care
- We are committed to integrating Catholic teaching and values into our healthcare practices
- We recognize and affirm the unique and intrinsic worth of each individual
- We treat all we serve with compassion and kindness
- We trust our colleagues as valuable members of our healthcare team and pledge to treat one another with loyalty, respect and dignity
We act with absolute honesty, integrity and fairness in the way we conduct our business and the way we live our lives
A history of dedication
CMC’s history began with the dedication of religious communities committed to healthcare for Manchester’s residents. In 1892, the Sisters of Mercy opened Sacred Heart Hospital, followed by Notre Dame Hospital in 1894, led by Monsignor Peter Hevey and the Sisters of Charity of St. Hyacinthe. In 1974, these two hospitals merged to form Catholic Medical Center, continuing their mission of care, compassion, and Catholic values.
During the past five decades, CMC has become one of New Hampshire’s largest medical centers, dramatically expanding its services with a continual focus on delivering the highest quality healthcare. CMC is home to the New England Heart & Vascular Institute, a nationally recognized leader in advanced cardiovascular services. Catholic Medical Center is proud to lead the region in medically advanced techniques and technologies to improve patient care. We’ve had a chance to mark several milestones by being the first in the state, first in New England or first in the country to offer innovative medical treatments and technologies.
We are grounded in a solid foundation and maintain the mission of our founders, providing health, healing and hope to all in the spirit of its Catholic traditions.
Commitment to healthcare equality
CMC stands firm in its commitment to healthcare equality, condemning racism and working to address racial injustices in our healthcare system and community. We support our staff and providers in ensuring that everyone who seeks our care is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion, regardless of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex.
