NICU
The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides critical care to newborns who are ill or premature. Many factors may lead to a newborn being admitted to the NICU, including low birth weight or complications during delivery. The NICU staff works closely with parents to develop a treatment plan for their newborn.
Our NICU services
Our family-integrated care model fosters bonding and attachment between you and your newborn. This method begins immediately after birth and continues throughout their NICU stay and transition home.
NICU and Family Suites
Our model allows rooming-in with your baby 24/7 and being actively involved in all aspects of care, working closely with our healthcare team as primary caregivers. The six single-family NICU rooms are designed for comfort, privacy and around-the-clock bonding. Each space is thoughtfully equipped to help you feel at home while staying close to your baby.
Each room includes:
- A radiant warmer, isolette and bassinet for your baby
- Free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TV
- Private bathroom with shower and personal locker
- Sleeping accommodations for parents
Our NICU includes:
- Access to a shared kitchen with a sink, refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee maker
- Washer and dryer
- Welcoming family lounge with additional amenities in a home-like setting
Safety and security
We take the protection and privacy of our patients very seriously. Our locked units and infant monitoring systems assure the safety and health of you and your baby during your stay.
NICU transport team
Navigating the NICU journey can be overwhelming, especially when critical transport services are necessary. Our highly trained NICU transport team is dedicated to safely transferring newborns from other facilities, providing continuity of care every step of the way.
The transport vehicle is not a standard ambulance. It is equipped with advanced technology and staffed by a specialized team that includes a transport-trained NICU registered nurse, a paramedic driver, emergency medical technician (EMT) and advanced practice provider. An experienced neonatologist (newborn ICU doctor) is also available by phone at all times.
The services provided by our transport team include:
- 24/7 transport services for neonatal patients throughout New Hampshire and the Greater Boston area
- Advanced care capabilities, including respiratory support, intravenous (IV) therapy, antibiotics and phototherapy
- Vehicle equipped with a specialized incubator capable of providing respiratory support, vital sign monitoring and thermoregulation
The Mom's Place
An important part of prenatal care is becoming familiar with where you’ll give birth. At The Mom’s Place, we want you to feel prepared and confident about your experience — which is why we offer welcome visits and tours for parents-to-be.
These free, small group sessions last about 90 minutes and give you the chance to tour our space, ask questions and learn what to expect during your stay. We recommend attending a welcome visit between 16 to 24 weeks of pregnancy.
